Making Wedding Menu Cards
Ideas For Making Wedding Menu Cards
So you have decided you are making all your wedding stationery, including the menu plan. If you are having a sit down reception, it is a good idea to have menu's, especially to hold important information regarding ingredients.
Some wedding reception venue's, will supply menus free of charge, but if you have full coordinating stationery for the rest of your wedding, why cut corners here. Your tables will look so much better with full coordinating table decor.
Points to consider:
1) If you have decided on a theme for your wedding, you could choose to add this theme to your menu cards, decorating them with flowers, embellishments or ribbons.
2) The menu's should ideally be very similar design to your place cards so that the full set looks coordinated on your wedding tables.
3) Decide how many you will need to make, you can either allow 1 per table, or 2 per table, but maybe consider making 3-4 for the top table. Depending on your budget of course.
4) The most popular size of card used for an order of service, is A5 postcard style flat cards, and A4 folded to A5 single fold cards. Both work equally as good.
5) If you do use the postcard style card blanks, you would need a card holder to place them into.
6) When printing, you need to decide if you want to use coordinating printables, or whether you are going to embark on the layout youself.
7) You can achieve great result, by using our Free Template, to help with you layout.
8) We advise on using a nice substantial weight card, between 250gsm-300gsm. This will be much nicer to work with and will look much more professional.

You could print for example, a modern template set, that maybe has pin-stripes, or circles, and still add a butterfly or flower embellishment to adorn it even more. This will certainly add a twist to your wedding invtations, so you get the designer look, without the cost. They will most certainly be very unique.
As a guide, take alook at our Funky Check Design Template below, now this would most certainly look beautiful if you add a lovely paper flower to the design. Maybe a single stemmed rose, placed in the centre of the check design??..Or 2-3 flat paper flowers all in vertical row?

Wedding Invitation Printing Tips
Once you’ve decided you are going to print your wedding invites, and have settled on the look and paper you want, go ahead and purchase your desired cards and paper plus quite a few extras.
There will always unfortunately be little mishaps (paper gets stuck in printer, ink may smear, the ink runs out and some of your invites prints out faded), aarghhh...what a nightmare, and you don’t want to run out of card and paper right in the middle of the whole process. Also make sure to order extra ink for your printer.
Now...be sure to keep a close eye on your printer once you start printing all your invitations. It’s so easy to start a print job of 100 invites, then get distracted by the phone or something else and not check them until they’re done, only to find that half of them printed out wonky or crooked because the paper wasn’t pulled into through the printer straight. So stay close to the printer, and try printing in smaller batches, maybe 5-10 at a time, that way you can stop it before it turns into a huge disaster.

Q&A - Printing Wedding Invitations
Ok...so you have decided to use a printable template to create and make your own wedding invitations. Many brides, dont have the knowledge or experiance in making wedding stationery packages, and at first the thought of making invites can be daunting. So to help you on our way, here is a list of questions and answers that will hopefully eliminate those worries.
Q) Why print wedding stationery at home?
A) Flexibilty, self satisifaction, and you will save ££££'s.
Q) Is it not better to pay for a professional printer?
A) You will save a huge amount of money. Paying for a professional printer will cost quite alot.
Q) Will my Invitations look professional if they are printed on my home pc printer?
A) Yes, all our design templates are made by professional designers, using various design programs such as vector and adobe illustrator. Naturally the print quality does depend on the quality of your home pc printer.
Q) Do I have to use a particular weight of card and paper.
A) This is solely down to your personal choice, but we do recommend that you use a good weight of paper and card. Card should be 250gsm-300gsm in weight, and paper should be 100-130gsm in weight. Anything less than this, and your wedding invitations will look flimsy and unprofessional. So the weight of the paper and card will give your invitations that quality look and feel.
Q) Will these weights go through my printer ok?
A) Most home pc printers, can take upto 300gsm in weight quite easily, but we still recommend you try it in your printer first, before heading out and buying all your card in bulk.
Q) Can I use pearlised paper and cards through my printer?
A) Yes, most printers print beautifully on all types of card and paper. Depending whether you have an inkjet, or laser printer, the quality will vary. We find pearlised paper and card print differently, the print quality looks clean cut, and a strong colour print on our laser printer, but the same card printed on an inkjet loses the colour a little, as the 'wet' ink is soaked up a little on the pearl card. In fact pearl card printed on an injet printer, makes the ink look pearlised too. So it is just a matter of preference.
Q) Can I use textured paper and cards through my printer?
A) Yes, again, most printers print beautifully on all types of card and paper. Depending whether you have an inkjet, or laser printer, the quality will vary. Most available textured card and paper, prints beautifully on types of home pc printers. Just remember to purchase a good weight.

Which way is forward???
Anyone that knows me, will know hard I have worked, I strive to achieve the perfect wedding stationery downloadable store. Wanting to get great results, so that customers, and brides to be will finally be able to make perfect wedding stationery, using their home pc & printer. This project is on going, and although I sometimes feel there is no end to this learning tunnel, each day I get that little bit closer.
Although today, was a very hard, long day... decisions being made, of which is the best way forward to create the perfect wedding stationery downloadable templates.
And after years of research, and long hours of working out, how to get the best working downloads, I think I have finally made my decision.
I have always thought that the downloads would be best on a pdf file, so alot of work has gone into finding the best way to apply text to a pdf file that is editable, and just knowing that pdf's were more transportable seemed to make sense. This was a trial, templates were designed and made, with editable areas using adobe acrobat editable text boxes, but it did not sit right, and I found it really difficult to edit, so it failed, after hours and days of trying to make this work, in the end, it was time to call the plug on using an editable pdf file. I felt really deflated, and have felt like giving up.
But today, after chatting to a great digital graphic designer; Amanda, and listening to her input, we think the best way forward, is to make our downloads as simple and easy to use with templates on word doc's, or maybe on two files; pdf's for images, and word documents for text inserts.
So there we have it... I am getting closer...

Printable Place Card Templates & Downloads
If you are having a traditional Wedding with a sit down reception, you will probably want to allocate your guests to seats with a place card. Most brides choose to use a traditional tent place card. These are small place cards with a single fold down the centre.
If you are lucky enough to have great neat handwriting, you can write directly onto the cards, with a nice calligraphy or gel pen. However, most of us are not this fortunate, and so will probably want to print on them, so using our unique printable place card templates, will make the whole job a lot easier. Our place card templates will print beautifully onto our own pre-scored place cards, which have been pre-cut to a specific size 90x90mm, they are supplied flat packed, allowing you to put through a printer quit easily, all you will need to do is adjust the gage in the printer tray.
Alternatively you can print the names of your guests on a sheet of vellum, insert paper, or pearlescent paper then cut to smaller size, you can either use the printed guest name as a wrap around the place card, or cut into strips where the guest name is printed, then adhere to the pre-scored place cards. Purchasing blank place cards and using printable downloadable templates to print directly onto them, will allow you to have great professional looking table staionery, but still allowing you to decorate further accordingly.
You can follow your theme throughout your diy wedding stationery and embellish with your chosen design to match your invitations, so your reception tables will look perfect, with matching items.
We have created designer printable templates for printing on our blank place cards, also word document for those wanting to use a text document without ant design, so feel free to download this and use accordingly.

How Many Invitations To Print?
When using printable templates and downloads, it is wise to allow extra cards for mishaps during the printing process. Although most of us are now used to using home pc printers to print on everyday. Printing wedding invitations can be a bit daunting, and therefore, to make sure you dont run out of cards, remember to allow a few extra just in case.
Printing Wedding Day and Evening Invitations:
To work out the number of wedding invitations to print you should divide the total number of guests by 2 and add 10 this should provide you with enough invitations plus spares which are handy in case of last minute guests or if you make a mistake or two when making them.
This rule of thumb will also apply to your Save the Date cards, Thank You cards, and reply cards.
Printing RSVP Reply Cards:
These may seem unimportant and are usually the first things to go when budgeting but they do pay off in the long run. People are more likely to reply when the card is supplied to them in an addressed envelope, especially as all our download packages also have wondeful coordinating products, why not us them the full extent! An alternative is to put an email address or phone number at the bottom of the invitation.
Printing Order of Service:
When using templates. You would need to print at least one between 2 guests plus extras for the bridal party, priest, musicians and of course the bride and groom. Always get your priest to agree on the contents before going a head with any printing. Making these yourself is a fantastic cost saver, print these yourself at home, these days even the card will go through most home pc printers. Using vellum, is luxurious, for that extra special insert.Place Card Names: You will only need place names if you are having a seating plan. You can save money by doing a 2in1 and make your place name a keepsake together,eg: a favour box with a place name tag and the bride & grooms name and date of wedding on the back.
Printing Thank You Card:
A lovely personal touch to your thank you cards is to use one of your favourite photo’s from the wedding or even the Hen/Stag (if suitable!).
Printing Menu's
This is not necessary, but f you are having a sit down reception, it is nice to have fully coordinating menu's on each table. So when working out how many to print, it is wise to print 1 menu per table, and allow at least 3 menu's for the top table.
Printing table Numbers:
This is normally needed, especially if you are intending on using a seating plan, as your guests will need to know their seating positions. If you dont fancy using table numbers, you may want to consider using table names instead.
Printing Place Cards:
When you have your final number of guests, again remember to allow for mishaps or misspellings, you should print one individual place card per guest, so you can easily allocate seating arrangement. All our printable place cards, allow you to print as many as you wish. Once downloaded, you can edit each individual name, and print from a high quality pdf file.

Making A Table Seating Plan
1) All table plans are different, it is best to work from the floor plan.
2) Firstly draw it out on a piece of scrap paper.
3) Set this out on a word document using shapes to format/represent tables on an A5 size of card: don’t worry about adding any names initially. Just work out how many tables will be used, and roughly how many seats per table, once you know the number of tables, you can print it out in numbered format or name the tables.
4) Use a printed sheet just to show your guests where the tables are in the room. The A5 size sheet is ideal for this, but the choice is yours. If you use two large A2 seating plan boards, print one for each board.
5) Once this has been done, you can print this out on A5 overlay paper. Use scrap to set it first.
6) When you have completed the layout format. You can now group your guests as you feel will be suited. Again, using scrap paper, jot down names first, whilst working them out.
7) You can print this out on A6 size of overlay paper.
8) Print your names & date of wedding on long narrow overlay papers, again if you use two boards, print one for each board.
9) Now you can place overlay papers on to backing cards, using the tape runner pen. Before sticking them to the Mount board, you will need to decide, how you are going to lay them out.
10) If you have more than 5 tables, it is best to use two mount boards, placing the table number format in the centre, and placing the names around this.
